MEET LOGAN EDWARDS

A graduate of Berry College and the University of Georgia, Logan Edwards is a fourth year doctoral candidate.  Originally from South Georgia, she studies southern culture and memory with her dissertation research focusing on the rise of rural private segregation academies in the 1960s.  She has published articles in The Southern Historian and The Journal of Interreligious Dialogue. Logan enjoys trivia, kickball, and planning elaborate Christmas light displays.  Her proudest accomplishment to date is perfecting an almond pound cake that will make you slap your mama.

 

Logan has been involved in the Southeast Regional Graduate Conference since 2012, first as a presenter and then helping organize the event in 2013. She hopes to see the conference continue to grow, attracting scholars from all fields and across the country to engage in active conversations about their work.  Her primary goal is to foster a relaxed and fun environment for graduate students to gain conference experience.

​MEET GREGORY

STERN

Gregory Stern received his B.A. in history from the University of Virginia in 2003. Gregory's time at U.Va. kindled his interest in Civil War history and military history in general. He also studied anthropology that sparked his study of the history of science and technology. From 2003 to 2005, at James Madison University, Gregory wrote his M.A. thesis on “Civil War Naval Technology” under the guidance of Dr. P. David Dillard.

Dr. Dillard pointed Gregory in the direction of his current doctoral history program at Florida State University, where he studies under the guidance of Dr. Michael Creswell. As of Spring 2011, Gregory is ABD and tracing the influences of ironclad warship technology in the Civil War from the early nineteenth-century to the end of the war. Gregory has presented at the Southeast Regional Graduate Student Conference in the past, and hopes to see it continue to enrich graduate student scholarship. He also has had a long time interest in space exploration, science fiction, and movies.

MEET ZACH STOLTZFUS

Zachary M. Stoltzfus, currently a PhD candidate at Florida State University, is a native of Pennsylvania whose focus is Modern European History and the Napoleonic Era. He graduated in 2010 with a Masters in European Studies from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, and completed his Bachelors in History at Millersville University, Pennsylvania.

 

Zachary's primary interest is in the ongoing political changes in Europe during and after the Napoleonic Era. He has presented previously at several academic conferences, and is excited to help plan a conference as a staff member. His hope is that this conference will provide a forum for lively discussion and intellectual refreshment. His spare time is spent fishing in St. Marks, reading novels, and investing himself emotionally in fantasy football.

MEET BECCA

SHRIVER

Becca Shriver recieved her B.A. in History of Ideas and European Union Studies from Kennesaw State University in 2010. She began her graduate work at Florida State University in 2011 under the guidance of Nathan Stoltzfus, and became ABD in the spring of 2014. Her areas of research include gender, peace, and European integration. Having presented at numerous conferences world-wide, she is deeply committed to the importance of international collaboration. In her spare time, Becca enjoys gardening, studying art and design, and going on long runs with her hyperactive dog.

 

Becca became involved with the Southeast Regional Conference Committee in 2013. She hopes to see this annual conference continue to grow, while remaining a comfortable and friendly environment that fosters professional relationships across discipline lines. Her goal as a part of this committee is to help build research networks among graduate students that will carry into their careers, and generate exciting new avenues of inquiry.
